Our review of the Primeclass aiport lounge in Zagreb

After our recent trip to Zagreb, in which we stayed at the Shertaon Zagreb Hotel, we flew back to London Heathrow with British Airways. Our flight departed from Zagreb’s principal airport, Franjo Tuđman and in doing so, we opted to make use of our Priority Pass status to access one of the airport lounges.

For Priority Pass holders, Zagreb has one available option – the Primeclass Lounge, which is easy to find once you have passed through security and the duty-free area.

Entering

First impressions were positive, with friendly staff at the welcome desk and an airy open-plan entrance way. There was no queue at all, and the whole process was quick and straightforward.

The lounge is effectively an ‘L shape’, divided into two main rooms, each with self-service food and beverage options. The smaller room (to the left as you enter) has a smaller array of selection of food and drink, but does have two massage chairs (albeit one of them was out of order during our visit). This room was a fair bit quieter when we visited, but also seemed darker.

Positives

The whole space feels immediately like an airport lounge in so far as you can’t really image it existing anywhere else. In some ways this is a positive, as it doesn’t feel as if it trying to imitate a high street coffee chain.

The food and beverage options were reasonably impressive in terms of their range. As we had eaten a huge Zagreb Schnitzel at Stari Fijaker prior to departing for the airport, we didn’t have space for a main dish. The snacks and pastries however were tasty and very fresh. There was also a wide selection of wrapped sandwiches and rolls, and we therefore took one each for the flight.

There was also a wide selection of alcoholic drink options from a self-service table. As well as a decent range of spirits, there was a dedicated wine fridge, and also a draught beer dispenser, which was a nice touch.

We sat ourselves down at a table in the main section, which is itself divided by a screen a café-seating area and a more secluded area to the rear. We passed a couple of hours here pleasantly enough and the lounge was fairly empty, and very quiet.

Additionally, unlike the Club Aspire lounge at Heathrow Terminal 5 for example, the Primeclass Lounge does have its own toilet facilities, which is great from a convenience standpoint.

Negatives

The main obvious downside is that the lounge doesn’t have any windows or sources of natural light.

Additionally, upon arrival a number of the tables were cluttered with used plates, glasses and food wrappers from previous guests. We therefore had to clear things ourselves before we could sit down.

Alternative Options

It is also worth noting that the new terminal opened in 2017, and therefore the whole building is very modern with some appealing looking options to eat and drink. Therefore, for those without lounge access, there are potentially some other decent options, but they were certainly a lot busier than the lounge on this occasion.
